Youth Killed in Attack by Miscreants in Gowainghat

A young man named Shahriar tragically died after being attacked by miscreants in Gowainghat. He was the son of Mujibur Rahman from Purnanagar village under West Alirgaon Union in the upazila. The reason behind the murder has not yet been ascertained.

The incident occurred early Tuesday morning around 5 AM near Radhanagar Bazaar in Gowainghat Upazila.

Police reported that Shahriar was traveling on a motorcycle from Gowainghat toward Jaflong in the early morning. Near Radhanagar Bazaar, miscreants intercepted his motorcycle, snatched cash and the vehicle, and attacked him, leaving him on the road. Locals later rescued him and took him to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Confirming the incident, Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarkar Tofail Ahmed said that police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. The body bore multiple injury marks. The authorities are investigating whether the incident was a case of robbery or due to prior enmity. The victim’s family is preparing to file a case regarding the matter.
