Youth arrested in house robbery case while busy with wedding ceremony in Baralekha

Baralekha Correspondent: On July 13, while a community center in Baralekha municipality of Moulvibazar was busy with a wedding ceremony for Canadian expatriates, unknown thieves broke into the back gate of the house and broke into the cupboards and stole 02 pairs of gold bangles, 01 pair of earrings, 02 gold chains, 01 gold bracelet, 1 lakh 45 thousand taka in cash and 500 US dollars, including a total of 9 lakh 7 thousand 5 hundred taka worth of valuables. On Sunday (August 03) night, Baralekha police station arrested him in a raid in Banglabazar area with the help of Doarabazar police of Sunamganj district. The arrested accused is Sharif Ahmed (24), son of Liton Mia of Bairagibazar, Khashirban Hatir Tila area of Beanibazar upazila of Sylhet district. (Current address is Mirdharpar, 1st Banglabazar UP, Thana-Doarabazar, Sunamganj district).

According to police sources, on the day of the incident, the victim Shamim Ahmed Kaushar filed a case with Barolekha police station as the plaintiff (Case No. 12, Date-14/07/2025, Section-454/380) under the Penal Code. After the case, under the overall guidance of the District Superintendent of Police, Additional Superintendent of Police, Kulaura Circle, and under the overall supervision of the Officer-in-Charge of Barolekha Police Station, Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Mollah, an investigation team was formed consisting of the investigating officer of the case, SI Ratan Kumar Halder, SI Debal Chandra Sarkar, ASI Fazle Azim and other members to identify the accused and recover the goods. The team identified the accused by collecting and reviewing the video footage of CCTV cameras from different places, reviewing the information received through information technology and secret information. On Sunday (August 03), the Barolekha Police Station conducted a raid in Banglabazar area of Doarabazar, Sunamganj district with the help of Doarabazar police and arrested him.

According to the information given by the arrested accused in the raid, 1 Yamaha company FZ X model motorcycle and 8 thousand taka in cash were recovered.

Barolekha Police Station OC Mahbubur Rahman Mollah said on Monday afternoon that during interrogation, the arrested accused confessed to his involvement in the incident. He revealed the names and addresses of two other accused who were with him. The names and addresses of the absconding accused have been kept secret for the sake of investigation of the case. The operation to catch the absconding accused is ongoing. Meanwhile, the arrested accused have been sent to court. After interrogation in the court, they will be sent to jail.
