Two Children Die After Drowning in Pond in Barlekha

Two children died after drowning in a pond in Barlekha, Moulvibazar. Their bodies were recovered by family members on Saturday (March 15) afternoon. The incident occurred in the BOC Kesrigul village of Dakshinbhag Uttar Union in the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Zahid Ahmad (6), son of Juned Ahmad, and his nephew Shamim Ahmad (8), both from BOC Kesrigul village. Shamim lived at his maternal grandfather’s house to attend school.

According to locals, Zahid and Shamim were playing near their house in the morning. At one point, they fell into the nearby pond and drowned. When family members couldn’t find them for a long time, they started searching. Later, their bodies were recovered from the pond.

Local Union Parishad member Abdur Rob said, “It has been raining for two days, and the pond was filled with water. In the morning, Zahid and Shamim were playing near the house and, unnoticed by the family, drowned in the pond. The police have been informed of the matter.”

Barlekha Police Station’s Inspector (Investigation) Sheikh Md. Kamruzzaman confirmed the incident on Saturday evening, stating, “The incident is tragic. A case of unnatural death has been filed in connection with this.”
