Md. Emdad Hossain Bhuiyan

Several members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have reportedly been severely injured in an attack by Indian smugglers involved in illegal trade along the Jaintapur border.

Recently, smuggling of Indian illegal goods through the Jaintapur border area has become increasingly open.

On Saturday night, around 9:30 PM, a patrol team from the Rajbari Border Outpost (BGB) arrived at the Tiprakala area near the Bangladesh-India International Boundary Pillar No. 1288 in Nijpat Union, Jaintapur Upazila, after receiving information about the entry of Indian cattle, buffaloes, and various illegal goods into Bangladesh. Upon reaching the spot, the smugglers attacked the BGB personnel.

As a result, two BGB members were injured. The injured are Harunur Rashid (35) and Mong Jamshed Hossain (29). Local residents and other BGB personnel rescued the injured members and provided primary treatment at Jaintapur Health Complex.

Due to the severity of the injuries, one of the BGB members was later transferred to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

When contacted at the official mobile number of the Jaintapur BOP Camp Commander, the Camp Commander, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the incident. He stated that two members of the patrol team were injured in the smugglers’ attack and are currently undergoing treatment. He added that senior officials have arrived at the scene, and more details will be available later.

Regarding the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaintapur Model Police Station, Abul Bashar Mohammad Badruzzaman, said, “I am not aware of the matter yet, and no complaint has been filed by any party so far. If a complaint is received, appropriate measures will be taken following an investigation.”
