Three leaders of the Bangladesh Chhatra League have been arrested by the police in connection with an anti-government flash procession held under the banner of the Cox’s Bazar District Jubo League. The arrests were made during separate raids conducted at various times on Wednesday night by the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station.
The arrested individuals are Anwar Shakil (24), son of Mohammad Kaiser of Nurpara in Ward No. 3 of Cox’s Bazar Municipality; Sharif Hossain (27), son of Mominul Haque of South Mohuripara in Jhilanja and former Joint Convener of the Cox’s Bazar College Chhatra League; and Anisur Rahman, son of late Manjur Alam of Ward No. 1 of Cox’s Bazar town and the Organizing Secretary of the Ward Jubo League.
Confirming the arrests, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, Md. Elias Khan, stated that multiple police teams conducted separate operations late Tuesday night to apprehend those involved in organizing the illegal flash procession under the Jubo League banner.
During the operations, Anwar Shakil and Sharif Hossain were arrested together at approximately 11:45 PM. In another raid, Jubo League leader Anisur Rahman was arrested from Ward No. 1 of Cox’s Bazar town.
The three arrested individuals are currently in police custody. OC Md. Elias Khan added that necessary actions are being taken against them. He further mentioned that operations are ongoing to arrest others involved in the flash procession incident.
