Tea Workers Block Airport Road in Sylhet

District Correspondent, Sylhet: Tea workers in Sylhet have blocked the Airport Road to press for their 11-point demands, including the payment of overdue wages.

On Sunday at around 1:30 PM, agitated tea workers staged a blockade near the entrance of the Sylhet City Corporation in the Khasdabir area.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sylhet Airport Police Station, Syed Anisur Rahman, confirmed the incident.

Alif Ahmed, a commuter heading to the airport, expressed frustration, saying, “This is a vital road used by foreign travelers and tourists. Blocking this road and holding passengers hostage is unacceptable. Such practices to force demands must stop.”

As of the time this report was filed at 2:30 PM, senior officers of Sylhet Metropolitan Police and members of the military were negotiating with the protesters to restore vehicular movement on the road.
