Tea Worker Dies of Heart Stroke After Witnessing Lightning in Borolekha

Leela Sheel (45), a tea worker from the New Samanbag Tea Estate in Borolekha Upazila, Moulvibazar, tragically passed away after suffering a heart stroke upon witnessing lightning.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning in the New Samanbag Office Line area of Dakshinbhag Dakshin Union. The deceased, Leela Sheel, was the wife of Bikram Sheel.

According to local sources and the police, Leela Sheel went out early at 6 a.m. to graze cattle as part of her daily routine. Around 8 a.m., a sudden natural storm began, and while she was bringing back the cattle, lightning struck nearby. Witnessing the lightning left her critically injured. Locals immediately took her to Borolekha Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead. The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the area.

Confirming the matter on Thursday afternoon, Borolekha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kashem Sarkar said, “Leela Sheel went to bring back the cattle during the natural calamity when lightning struck nearby. Witnessing the lightning caused her to suffer a heart stroke, leading to her death.”
