Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway Blockade: Traffic Resumes Following Army Intervention

District Correspondent, Sylhet: Students of Sunamganj Medical College staged an indefinite class boycott and blocked the Sylhet-Sunamganj highway for the second consecutive day, demanding the immediate commencement of hospital operations and regular ward classes at the college.

On Sunday morning, from 10 a.m., the students blocked the road in front of the campus at Madanpur on the Sylhet-Sunamganj highway. Later, the army arrived at the scene and requested the students to vacate the road, but the students continued the blockade, ignoring the request. At around 10:30 a.m., the army resorted to baton charges to disperse the students and cleared the road for traffic to resume.

Earlier, on April 15, the students announced an indefinite boycott of classes and organized a human chain, followed by a blockade on the road. Over the past four days, they have carried out various protest programs.

The students stated that after the initial blockade was lifted, no effective steps were taken to ensure ward class facilities or to commence hospital operations, prompting them to resume the blockade. They warned that they would continue the blockade until their demands are met.
