A.F.M. Asad Ullah: The ‘Sylhet DSA Cup T20 Cricket Tournament’ is set to commence this Tuesday. The tournament is being organized by the Sylhet District Sports Association (DSA). Advocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury, Member (1st) of the DSA’s Convening Committee, announced the event at a press conference held on Sunday afternoon at the Tipu Majumdar Press Box in the Cricket Pavilion Building of Sylhet District Stadium.
In a written statement, he said, “On April 9 this year, the National Sports Council formed a new convening committee for the Sylhet District Sports Association (DSA). Upon assuming responsibility, the current committee decided to present an exciting game for the people of Sylhet. Accordingly, the ‘Sylhet DSA Cup T20 Cricket Tournament’ is starting from Tuesday at Sylhet District Stadium.”
Six teams are participating in the tournament: Padma Platoon, Meghna Super Giants, Jamuna Warriors, Kushiyara Super Kings, Surma Gladiators, and Basia Titans. Players from the national cricket team representing Sylhet, as well as players from district and divisional teams, will participate in the tournament. Additionally, players from the first and second cricket leagues will also be part of the event.
Advocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury further stated, “The participating players in the ‘Sylhet DSA Cup T20 Cricket Tournament’ have been divided into three categories, and teams were formed through a lottery to ensure equal strength for all teams. Similarly, coaches, assistant coaches, and managers were selected through a lottery. The tournament will follow a round-robin league format, where each team will face every other team. Two matches will be held daily. The top two teams with the highest points in the round-robin league will compete in the final. In case of rain, points will be shared between the two teams for that match. Considering the monsoon season, a reserve day has been allocated for the final match.”
Apart from organizing this tournament, the DSA aims to regularly host various sporting events and work tirelessly to advance Sylhet’s sports scene, Advocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury expressed in the press conference.
