A.F.M. Asad Ullah: Sylhet’s various tourist spots are teeming with visitors during the three-day holiday centered around May Day, leaving no hotel or motel vacant.
From Thursday morning, popular destinations like Sada Pathar, Jaflong, Ratargul, and Bisnakandi were crowded with tourists. Other spots, including Lakkatura Tea Garden, the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R.) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R.), also witnessed a significant number of visitors.
Government employees took advantage of the three-day consecutive break, which included May Day on Thursday and the regular weekend on Friday and Saturday. Many have come to Sylhet with their families and friends for a short vacation.
From early morning, Sylhet’s main tourist spots, including Ratargul, Sada Pathar, Bisnakandi, and Jaflong, were buzzing with tourists. Local tourism operators expect similar crowds on Friday and Saturday.
Sujan Ahmed, proprietor of Hotel Sheraton in the Amberkhana area, mentioned that the influx of tourists during the three-day holiday has been massive. Most hotels and motels were fully booked in advance. Those who failed to secure prior bookings are facing difficulties, especially in areas like Zindabazar, Dargah Gate, and Amberkhana, where no rooms are currently available.
Meanwhile, the Tourist Police are fully prepared to ensure the safety of visitors. Additional surveillance has been implemented at various tourist spots.
Additional DIG of Sylhet Tourist Police, Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain, stated that security measures for tourists in Sylhet have been strengthened. Plainclothes officers are also active at key locations. In addition to providing security over the three-day holiday, a permanent Tourist Police camp has been set up in the Bholaganj Sada Pathar area. Moreover, extra police personnel have been deployed in tourist spots across Sunamganj and Moulvibazar.
