Someshwari River Swells After Hours of Flash Flood

District Correspondent, Sylhet: The water level of the Someshwari River in Sunamganj has risen due to sudden flash floods from the hills. However, there is no risk of flooding or damage to the boro paddy crops.

On Monday at 5 PM, continuous rainfall in Meghalaya, India, caused water to rush down the hills and flow through the Someshwari River in Chandali Para area of Banshikhunda Dakshin Union. A river that was cracked and parched just days ago due to drought became filled to the brim within hours of the flash flood.

Mamun Hawladar, Executive Engineer of Sunamganj Water Development Board, said, “The flash flood is occurring due to rainfall in Meghalaya, India. However, there is no fear of flooding as the rivers and haors in Sunamganj are still dry. Additionally, there is no possibility of crop damage.”
