Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled goods worth more than one crore taka in Sylhet. These goods were seized during raids conducted in various border areas of Sylhet district.
Acting on secret information, the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB), under the Sylhet Sector, conducted operations on Saturday in border areas of Sylhet district, including Banglabazar, Lobiya, Nowakot, Kalairag, Bisnakandi, Sonarhat, Panthumai, Protapur, Utma, Sripur, and Songram BOP.
During the operation, a large quantity of Indian sunglasses, cattle, sugar, chocolate, hair oil, eyeball candy, juice, soap, liquor, and pangasius fish (being smuggled out of Bangladesh), along with a truck used for transporting the smuggled goods, were seized.
The estimated value of the seized goods is 1 crore 28 lakh 5 thousand 900 taka, as reported by BGB.
In this regard, the Commanding Officer of the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) stated that, following the directives of the higher headquarters, BGB’s operational activities and intelligence efforts to ensure border security and prevent smuggling are being conducted continuously. As part of these efforts, operations in the border areas led to the seizure of this significant amount of smuggled goods. Necessary actions will be taken for the confiscated items as per regulations.
