Smuggled Goods Worth Over Half a Crore Seized at Sylhet Border

District Correspondent, Sylhet: A significant quantity of smuggled Indian goods has been seized by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Sylhet. These items were confiscated during operations in various border areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj.

On Friday morning, acting on a tip-off, Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) conducted operations in border areas under its jurisdiction, including Banglabazar, Sonalichela, Sangram, Pratappur, Tamabil, Kalasadeq, Sonarhat, Lobiya, and Sripur Border Outposts (BOPs). During the raids, Indian saris, blankets, buffaloes, KitKat chocolates, puffed snacks (fuchka), liquor, and catfish (Shing fish) being smuggled out of Bangladesh were seized.

The estimated market value of the confiscated smuggled goods is approximately BDT 53,67,100.

Regarding the matter, the Commanding Officer of Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) stated that as per directives from the higher headquarters, BGB’s operational activities and intelligence surveillance are being carried out comprehensively to ensure border security and prevent smuggling. Following this strategy, the smuggled goods were confiscated during the border operations. Necessary actions will be taken regarding the seized items as per regulations.
