Seven Released from Prison on Independence Day

On the occasion of Independence Day, seven inmates were released from Sylhet Central Jail. Among them, three are from Sunamganj, two from Sylhet, and two from Moulvibazar. All the released individuals are men, most of whom are physically ill. After completing all preparations, the prison authorities handed them over to their families on March 18 and 19.

Sharmin Tania, Deputy Jailer of Sylhet Central Jail, confirmed the matter. She said that the released prisoners had served various sentences in Sylhet Jail. Most of them are elderly men. Considering their overall condition, they were released as per the government’s decision.

Prison sources revealed that Khorshed Ali (81), convicted of murder, was sentenced to 30 years in prison and fined 5,000 BDT. He had already served 11 and a half years, with about 18 years of his sentence remaining. He is incapacitated due to respiratory issues, vision problems, and other illnesses. Additionally, Shahinur Alam (50), convicted of murdering his cousin, was sentenced to 30 years in prison and fined 20,000 BDT. He had served 28 years, 1 month, and 14 days. He is paralyzed due to a stroke and is almost completely incapacitated from old age-related issues.

The released prisoners are:

•Khorshed Ali, son of Haji Abdul Majid from Hargram, Jagannathpur, Sunamganj.

•Shahinur Alam, son of Haji Anwar Pasha from Raipur, Sunamganj.

•Sufi Mia, son of the late Syed Ullah from Paragaon, Jagannathpur, Sunamganj.

•Tera Mia, son of Sajjad Ali from Dattagram, Beanibazar, Sylhet.

•Badsha Mia, son of the late Shamsher Ali from Bishwanath, Sylhet.

•Habib Ali, son of Khorshed Ali from Murarpul, Barlekha, Moulvibazar.

•Shafik Mia, son of the late Moyna Mia from Srimangal, Moulvibazar.
