Ashfak Ahmed, Borlekha-Juri (Moulvibazar) Correspondent : May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day were celebrated in Barolekha of Moulvibazar. On this occasion, a rally and discussion meeting was organized by the Upazila administration on Thursday (May 1st).
In the post-rally discussion meeting in the Upazila Parishad meeting room, Upazila Executive Officer (O.D.) Md. Aslam Sarwar presided over the rally. Subrata Dev, Sub-Inspector of Barolekha Police Station, Maulana Alim Uddin, Acting Chairman of Dakshinbhag Uttar Union, Abdur Rob, General Secretary of Barolekha Press Club, among others, spoke.
Meanwhile, a rally and discussion meeting was held on the occasion of International Workers’ Day at the initiative of the Barolekha Upazila Branch of Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Federation. The discussion meeting organized under the chairmanship of Upazila Workers Welfare Federation President Abdullah Al Mahfuz Sumon and moderated by General Secretary Delwar Hossain Sayeed, was addressed as the chief guest by the Chief Advisor of Barelekha Upazila of Workers Welfare Federation and Ameer of Upazila Jamaat Mu. Emadul Islam. Former Upazila President Dr. Kamal Uddin, Acting Chairman of Dakshinbhag Uttar Union Maulana Alim Uddin were the special guests. Among others, Upazila Vice President Aziz Ahmed Sabu, Azizul Haque, Municipal President Misbah Uddin, Sadar Union President Mujibur Rahman, Daser Bazar Union President Abdul Hamid, Transport Workers Leader Iqbal Hossain, General Secretary of Auto Rickshaw Owners Association Atiqur Rahman and others spoke.
Also present were Upazila Vice President Badrul Islam, Municipal General Secretary Habibur Rahman, Sadar Union General Secretary Ahmed Hossain, Member Secretary of the Upazila Workers Union Convening Committee Shahin Ahmed. The discussion meeting was attended by workers from all walks of life, including transport workers, construction workers, shop workers, auto-rickshaw workers, and agricultural workers.
After the discussion meeting, the rally circled the important roads of the city and ended with a short rally in front of the Sadar Union Parishad.
In the afternoon, on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, a discussion meeting and gifts were distributed among the workers at the initiative of the National Social-Voluntary Organization Nirapar Sarak Chai (NISCHA) Barolekha Upazila Branch.
At the local office of the city, under the chairmanship of NISCHA Barolekha Branch Vice President Abdul Aziz and moderated by Publicity Secretary Redwan Ahmed Rumman, Vice President Golam Kibria, senior member of the executive committee Shahriar Shakil, Niranjan Debnath Nilu, Zakaria Ahmed, Shahab Uddin, labor leader Monir Ahmed and others spoke.
Later, improved mango seedlings were distributed among the workers by Brikshabandhu Nursery.
Moreover, the Nationalist Workers’ Party held a rally in the city on the occasion of May Day.
