Rally and Discussion Meeting Held in Osmaninagar on May Day

Osmaninagar Correspondent: With the theme “Workers and Employers Together Will Build This Nation Anew,” a rally and discussion meeting were held in Osmaninagar, Sylhet, to observe International Workers’ Day. The event was organized by the Upazila Administration on Thursday at 11:30 AM. Following the discussion meeting in the Upazila conference room, a rally was held on the Upazila Parishad premises.

The meeting was presided over by Osmaninagar Upazila Executive Officer Zainal Abedin. Speakers included Upazila Information Officer Shahreen Sultana, Upazila ICT Officer Khan Jahan Ali, Youth Development Officer Monirul Islam, Assistant Family Planning Officer Abdul Mukit, Acting Chairman of Goala Bazar Union Shahin Mia, Osmaninagar Upazila Press Club General Secretary Kabir Ahmad, Upazila Journalists’ Union President Muhib Hasan, Press Club Office Secretary Jitu Ahmad, Joint Secretary Jubel Ahmad, President of the Workers Welfare Federation Osmaninagar Branch Abdul Mumin, Vice President Redwan Khan, and labor leaders Ziaur Rahman, Shahidul Islam, and Kazi Shamim Azad.

Speakers at the event highlighted the sacrifices of workers on May 1, 1886, in Chicago, USA, who fought for the dignity of labor, fair wages, and an eight-hour workday. They emphasized that every year this day is observed to uphold the rights of the working class. They also stressed the significant role of laborers in the socio-economic development of the country. To sustain this progress, improved working conditions, healthy labor-management relations, and the well-being and safety of workers are essential. Efforts are continuously being made to enhance workers’ skills through training and to ensure their overall welfare.

Following the discussion meeting, a rally was taken out from the Upazila Parishad premises, circled the Parishad compound, and concluded at the same location.
