Passenger arrested with dirhams, stolen mobile phones at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport

Own Reporter: The National Security Intelligence Service (NSI) has arrested a passenger named Md. Sayem Nawaz with dirhams, stolen mobile phones and a carton of yarn at the Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong. He was arrested from the international departure gate area of ​​the airport on Sunday (May 11) afternoon based on a secret tip-off. During this, 30,000 dirhams, 10 stolen mobile phones and a carton of yarn were seized from the passenger.

The airport NSI said that the market value of the recovered UAE dirhams is about 1 million taka in Bangladeshi currency. In addition, 10 iPhone and Samsung smartphones, whose market value is about 1.25 million taka and two cartons of yarn worth approximately 2 million taka, were recovered.
The airport customs authority said that a passenger can carry a maximum of 7,000 US dollars equivalent in foreign currency. All the foreign currency with him was seized as this limit was exceeded.
Customs officials said that a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act is underway in this incident. They also said that the arrested Sayem Nawaz regularly travels to the Middle East. The recovered currency, mobile phones and other goods have been handed over to the customs. The estimated revenue value is 23 lakh 30 thousand taka.
The arrested Sayem Nawaz’s house is in Satkania, Chittagong. He was preparing to go to Dubai from Chittagong via Dhaka on Bangladesh Biman flight BG-616.
