District Correspondent: Polash Sarkar (30) has been arrested by the police in connection with the attack on Cplus TV journalists in the Dewanji Pukur Par area of Chattogram. The police have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other accused individuals.
Polash Sarkar was arrested early Sunday morning (April 20) from the Dewanbazar area of the city. He is the son of Nimai Sarkar from Daktar Bari in Billagram, Agailjhara Police Station, Barishal. Currently, he resides in the Machua Jharnah area of Chattogram.
On the afternoon of April 15, journalists from Cplus TV were attacked while collecting news at the 22-story building of former minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud. During the attack, Cplus TV journalist Hossain Abbas and cameraman Mohammad Sharif were seriously injured. The injured journalists filed a case at the Kotwali Police Station, naming five individuals and accusing seven others whose identities remain unknown.
The Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station stated, “Polash has been found to be directly involved in the incident. Legal action is being taken against him, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the others involved.”
According to local sources, members of a banned organization were allegedly planning subversive activities at the underground area of Hasan Mahmud’s building and a business establishment named Gloriars Manufacturing Industries. When the Cplus TV team arrived to gather information, their presence prompted the swift removal of certain goods packed in cartons from the premises. This raised questions among locals about the contents of those cartons that necessitated immediate removal upon being noticed by journalists.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the police are working to uncover the full details of the case.
