Offensive Posts on Facebook: Case Filed Against School Teacher in Cyber Tribunal Court

Barlekha-Juri Correspondent: In Barlekha, Moulvibazar, a case has been filed against Sudarshan Dey, an assistant teacher at Mushegul Government Primary School, in the Sylhet Cyber Tribunal Court under the Cyber Security Act. The case accuses him of posting multiple offensive and obscene statements on social media, causing defamation to the Hindu youth community, groups, couples, and religious organization leaders.

On May 7, the case was filed by Akash Deb, son of Nikhil Deb from Nij Dakshinbhag village, on behalf of the victims. The court has instructed the Moulvibazar Detective Branch (DB) police to investigate the matter and submit a report.

According to the case details, on April 5, during the Charak Puja organized by the Hindu community in the Sarbojanin Debasthali area of Nij Dakshinbhag village, Sudarshan Dey behaved inappropriately with volunteers of the temple management committee. Following protests against his behavior, he allegedly began making obscene and hate-filled remarks on social media, targeting the temple committee, Hindu youth community, Hindu couples, and volunteers, thereby defaming them.

The plaintiff’s lawyer, Senior Advocate Sajib Kanti Deb of the Sylhet Judge Court, stated that the court has directed the Moulvibazar DB police to investigate the allegations and submit a report.
