However, police have stated that no case has yet been filed by the victim’s family regarding the incident.
Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Jasim Uddin said that the order was issued by Senior Judicial Magistrate Akhter Javed on Tuesday (May 6).
The accused sent to jail are Raiyan Kashem, son of Jahangir Kashem of Baharchhara area in Cox’s Bazar, and two security guards of the Allahwala Hatchery owned by Jahangir Kashem, Mohammad Hossain and Mohammad Mizan.
Raiyan Kashem is the coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Cox’s Bazar and a local leader of the NCP. His father, Jahangir Kashem, is a prominent former leader of the Islami Chhatra Shibir and currently serves as a central committee vice-president of the Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party).
According to Jasim Uddin, the incident occurred late Sunday night near the old bridge in Khurushkul, Cox’s Bazar Sadar, at the Allahwala Hatchery. A youth was beaten to death in the incident. Acting on information, police detained four suspects on the same night.
Among the detained, Raiyan Kashem was injured by an agitated mob and was treated under police custody at a hospital. After his condition improved, he was discharged from Chattogram Medical College Hospital and brought back to Cox’s Bazar on Monday night.
On Tuesday morning, three of the suspects were presented to the Cox’s Bazar court, which subsequently ordered their imprisonment. One of the detained individuals was released.
Jasim Uddin also stated that the victim’s family has not yet filed a written complaint at the police station. Once a complaint is received, a case will be registered. Despite this, police are continuing their efforts to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, supporters of Raiyan Kashem have announced a torch rally on Tuesday evening demanding his release.
The incident took place late Sunday night at the Allahwala Hatchery in Khurushkul Union, Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila, where a youth named Ali Akbar was beaten to death.
Ali Akbar, the deceased, was the son of Ali Ahmed, a resident of Kuliyapara in Khurushkul Union.
The victim’s family claims that Ali Akbar was abducted from his home and killed in a premeditated act under the pretext of fish theft. They believe the murder stemmed from a land dispute.
However, before being attacked by the mob, NCP leader Raiyan Kashem stated to the media that Ali Akbar was caught red-handed stealing at the hatchery by security guards. Kashem claimed that when Ali Akbar attacked the guards, they retaliated in self-defense, leading to his death.
