During the Eid holidays, a large influx of tourists has been observed at Sylhet’s Lakkatura Tea Garden. Just like the first day of Eid, the second day also witnessed a massive crowd of visitors. On Tuesday afternoon, travel enthusiasts flocked to the tea garden, surrounded by rolling hills, to enjoy its scenic beauty. Before evening, the entire tea garden area turned into a gathering place for nature lovers.
Lakkatura Tea Garden is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Sylhet city. With its lush greenery, picturesque landscape, winding hilly paths, and tea-covered slopes, this tea garden is known as a serene escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. While visitors frequent this location throughout the year, the influx of tourists increases significantly during the Eid holidays.
On Monday afternoon, the first day of Eid, the tea garden was notably crowded with visitors. The same scene was observed on Tuesday as well. Apart from local tourists, nature lovers from different parts of the country gathered in the tea garden area. By evening, thousands of visitors had transformed the entire tea garden into a lively tourist hub.
A visit to the site revealed that tourists began arriving from noon, with their numbers increasing in the afternoon. Some visitors came with their families for an outing, while others enjoyed the place with friends. Many were engaged in photo sessions and video recordings, capturing the natural beauty of the tea garden.
Tree enthusiast Shah Md. Sikandar Ahmad Shakir said, “Whenever I have free time or a holiday, I rush to this place. The atmosphere here is unique. Moreover, it is a safe location. As Sylhet is known as the tea capital, both local and national tourists are drawn to this tea garden. This Eid was no exception.”
Riyad, a student from the Bankalapara area of the city, expressed, “This is a very beautiful place. My entire family came here. We spent the whole afternoon in a natural setting.”
Ahmad Hossain, a private-sector employee, commented, “Among the sightseeing spots near the Sylhet suburbs, this tea garden is one of the best. Whenever I get the chance, I visit here. I don’t often have the opportunity to travel far, so I came here with my wife and children to spend quality time.”
To ensure the safety of visitors, law enforcement agencies were also active in the area. Additionally, local vendors had set up stalls selling food and various items, adding more vibrancy to the Eid celebrations.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, Mohammad Saiful Islam, stated, “We have taken measures to ensure that tourists can travel safely in Sylhet. Besides uniformed officers, plainclothes law enforcement personnel are also deployed at every tourist spot. The police remain on high alert to ensure the security of tourists.”
