District Correspondent, Sylhet: The students of Sunamganj Medical College have initiated an indefinite shutdown of academic and administrative activities until their demands are met.
On Monday at 9:00 AM, the protesting students locked the gates of the administrative and academic buildings of the medical college and hung blood-stained symbolic aprons.
Later, they held a human chain and protest rally in front of the gates, wearing black badges. During the rally, they chanted slogans condemning the attacks on them.
The students stated that the Ministry must provide a specific roadmap to ensure adequate ward facilities and the operation of the hospital. They also demanded justice for the attack on their program. Until their demands are met, they will continue the indefinite shutdown of academic and administrative activities.
Earlier, on Sunday morning, students blocked the Sylhet-Sunamganj road at Madanpur for the second consecutive day, demanding adequate ward facilities and the hospital’s operation. Despite requests from the military to remove the blockade, the students continued their protest. At one point, the military intervened, charging at the protesting students with batons. Following this, the students retreated from the road.
Since April 15, the students have been boycotting classes and holding human chains, submitting memorandums, and organizing blockade programs.
