Incessant rain and landslides disrupt public life in Borlekha, low-lying areas flooded, flood fears

Borlekha (Moulvibazar) Representative: Due to the influence of the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, roads, markets and towns in Baralekha of Moulvibazar have been flooded with continuous heavy and light rains and landslides from Thursday to Sunday morning. Thousands of people are suffering severely as floodwaters have entered their homes. Hundreds of mud houses have collapsed in the landslides. Public life has been disrupted by the continuous rains and stormy winds. Most businessmen have not opened their shops due to the continuous rains. Severe waterlogging has occurred in the roads and markets. Heavy rainfall and landslides have raised fears of flooding in the unions of Hakaluki Haorpar.

It has been learned on the ground that, due to the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, there has been intermittent rain and gusty winds for the past few days. However, since Thursday morning, heavy and light rains have been accompanied by storms, causing extreme suffering to public life. Due to heavy rains and water flowing over canals, beels and gullies due to hill slopes, roads and crop fields have been flooded. Severe waterlogging has occurred. The water level in Hakaluki Haor is gradually increasing. This threatens to cause flooding in Talimpur, Burni and Sujanagar unions in the Haorpar. Moreover, due to continuous heavy rains, water from the forest is flowing over the road at at least 6/7 places on the Kulaura-Chandgram regional highway. Traffic is moving at a serious risk.
It was seen on the spot that the roads in the Kulaura-Chandagram regional highway areas of Bashirpur, Hatlia, Dakshinbhag, Ratuli, Kathaltali, Panidhar were submerged up to 3/4 feet. The direct movement of light vehicles was stopped due to the submerged roads. Heavy vehicles were moving at great risk. Due to the continuous heavy rain, every hat, bazaar and alley of the municipal town including Dakshinbhag, Kathaltali, Paurshahar, Shahbazpur of the upazila was submerged. Water entered the shops and destroyed goods worth crores of taka of traders. Due to the continuous rain and the submerged roads, no one could come out of their houses. Hard-working people were in trouble. No one opened their shops. Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mizanur Rahman said that despite the continuous rain, no information has been received about serious damage yet. However, the chairmen of the unions in Hakaluki Haorpar said that the water is rising and if the continuous rain continues like this, there will be floods. Upazila administration. The announcement of opening 22 shelters has been made.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Monowar Hossain said that Aush planting has been completed on about 60 percent of the land. There has been no damage to the crops due to the rain yet. There is a fear of damage to Aush if it is submerged in the flood.

Upazila Executive Officer Tahmina Akhter said that every union in the upazila has been flooded. She has asked the Project Implementation Officer to inquire about the damage.
