Marjahan Akter Jhumur (18), a housewife from Gobindapur in Feni, has died due to alleged torture by her husband. The brutal husband has been identified as Saidur Rahman, son of Shahabuddin from South Gobindapur Kamo Bhuiyan Bari in Feni Sadar. The victim’s family is preparing to file a case, according to the victim’s mother, Farida Akter.
It has been reported that Marjahan, daughter of Abdul Alim from Alampur in Sonagazi, was married to Saidur Rahman of Gobindapur, Feni Sadar, in an arranged marriage on February 27. However, disputes arose between the couple shortly after the wedding.
On March 4, following a quarrel, Saidur and his family allegedly subjected Marjahan to inhumane torture. In a critical condition, her family rescued her and admitted her to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Doctors at CMCH stated that Marjahan had burn marks from a heated rod on various parts of her body. After being under treatment in the ICU for 12 days, she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, March 15.
The victim’s mother, Farida Akter, stated, “My daughter was brutally killed by burning her with a heated rod.”
Regarding the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shamsuzzaman of Feni Model Police Station said, “We have not yet received any written complaint regarding the housewife’s death. Necessary legal action will be taken upon receiving a complaint.”
