Third-Grader Faces Attempted Assault
Tea Workers Stage Strike, Human Chain in Rajnagar
Rajnagar (Moulvibazar) Correspondent:
Tea workers in Rajnagar, Moulvibazar, staged a two-hour work stoppage and demonstration yesterday, demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of Manna Pashi (20), accused of attempting to assault a third-grade schoolgirl. The incident reportedly took place in the Uttarbhag Tea Garden area.
The workers gathered in front of the garden’s Mandap Hall to protest. Addressing the gathering, speakers including union council member Subhash Pashi, Panchayat President Dulal Bagti, Secretary Deepak Kairi, teachers Chandrajit Pashi and Joyram Pashi, and community elder Md. Abdur Rashid urged authorities to take swift action.
The girl’s mother filed a case with Rajnagar police, naming Manna Pashi as the sole accused. According to the case details, the 11-year-old girl, a resident of Uttarbhag Tea Garden’s Kona Line, was on her way home from school when Manna Pashi reportedly lured her by claiming her brother was hiding in his house.
As the girl approached, Manna locked her inside his house, forced her onto a bed, and attempted to assault her. However, the arrival of Manna’s brother, Shiva Pashi, interrupted the incident, prompting Manna to flee. The victim, injured and traumatized, informed her family, who immediately sought medical care at the garden hospital.
Deepak Kairi, former Panchayat President of Uttarbhag Tea Garden, confirmed the incident and expressed outrage. “We demand swift justice and the immediate arrest of the accused,” he said.
Rajnagar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mahbub Morshed Khan confirmed the case filing. “The victim has been sent to court for her statement. We are actively working to apprehend the accused,” he said.
