Goods Worth Over Half a Crore Seized at Sylhet Border

District Correspondent, Sylhet: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized Indian cattle, buffaloes, sugar, and drugs during operations at the Jaintapur and Kanaighat borders in Sylhet.

In a press release on Thursday, it was stated that Battalion 19 of the Border Guard Bangladesh under the Sylhet Sector conducted the operations in these border areas and seized the goods.

According to BGB, during a special operation at Sarighat, located 5 kilometers inside the zero line of the Jaintapur border, 10 ownerless Indian buffaloes were seized. In another operation, 12 more Indian buffaloes were seized.

Meanwhile, during a special operation near the zero line of Kanaighat upazila’s border area, 133 bottles of Indian liquor and 1,500 kilograms of Indian sugar were seized.

BGB reported that the approximate market value of the seized goods is 50,24,500 taka.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Zubair Anwar, PSC, the commander of Battalion 19 BGB, stated, “The Zakiganj Battalion (19 BGB) is conducting ongoing anti-smuggling operations and intelligence activities to ensure border security. These operations are part of that initiative. Such operations by the BGB to secure the border will continue.”
