Barlekha-Juri Correspondent: Barlekha police, with the assistance of CNG owners and local residents, have recovered three stolen CNG autorickshaws and arrested four active members of an inter-district CNG theft gang. The gang members were caught while attempting to sell stolen autorickshaws in Daserbazar, Barlekha.
The arrested thieves are Nahid Ahmed (20), son of Abdul Hadi of Purba Mobarakpur village, Sadipur Union, Osmaninagar; Saiful Islam (21), son of Ahmed Ali of Shashar Kandi village, Goala Bazar Union; Sirajul Islam (19), son of Abdul Ahad of Shaithdha village, Tajpur Union; and Masum Ahmed (19), son of deceased Bashir Uddin of Chandgram, Niz Bahadurpur Union, Barlekha.
On Monday afternoon, the police, with support from local residents and CNG owners, apprehended the gang members from Daserbazar and Chandgram areas. During the operation, three stolen CNG autorickshaws were recovered, which had been stolen from various locations in Barlekha and Sylhet.
Sources revealed that one of the stolen CNG autorickshaws, owned by Mrs. Hajera Akter of Baraikandi, Sylhet, was stolen from the Chandirpur area on Monday morning. The thieves took the autorickshaw to Daserbazar in Barlekha. Using location tracking, the owner traced its position to Daserbazar and, with the help of local residents, identified the autorickshaw in a house where three thieves were asleep. The locals detained the thieves and informed the police.
Based on the information provided by the arrested individuals, Sub-Inspector Md. Masud Parvez conducted a raid in Chandgram, recovering two additional stolen CNG autorickshaws and arresting another individual. The thieves admitted to stealing the vehicles and bringing them to Daserbazar for sale. They also confessed to stealing more CNG autorickshaws from different areas in the past.
Barlekha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abul Kashem Sarkar confirmed on Monday afternoon that the arrested individuals are active members of an inter-district CNG autorickshaw theft syndicate. Police have recovered three stolen autorickshaws from their possession. One owner of the recovered autorickshaws has already filed a case against the accused, while the other two owners are preparing to file cases. The four arrested suspects will be presented in court on Tuesday.
