Former Sylhet SP Mannan Dismissed

Former Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sylhet district, Abdul Mannan, has been temporarily dismissed from government service. Along with him, DIG Mollah Nazrul Islam, who was attached to the Rajshahi Sardah Police Academy (former GMP Commissioner), has also been dismissed.

The Ministry of Home Affairs’ Public Security Division, Police-1 branch, issued two separate notifications on Monday disclosing the dismissals. Senior Secretary Nasimul Gani signed the notifications on March 16 under the orders of the President.

The notification stated that Abdul Mannan, attached to the Rangpur Range DIG office (former Sylhet district SP), was arrested on February 9 in connection with a case and presented before the court. The court ordered his detention in Sylhet Central Jail.

As a result, Abdul Mannan has been temporarily dismissed from government service effective February 9 under Section 39(2) of the Government Service Act, 2018 (Act No. 57 of 2018).

The notification further mentioned that DIG Mollah Nazrul Islam was also arrested on February 9 in connection with a case and presented before the court. Therefore, Mollah Nazrul Islam has also been temporarily dismissed from government service effective February 9 under the same provisions of the Government Service Act, 2018.

According to the notification, both officers will be entitled to subsistence allowances as per regulations.

Abdul Mannan, a 25th BCS (Police) cadre officer, joined as the SP of Sylhet district on July 10 last year. Prior to that, he served as the SP of Cumilla. Following the fall of the Awami League government, he was transferred on August 27, just 48 days later.

Abdul Mannan, who was arrested in Rangpur, was sent to Sylhet Central Jail on February 9 following an order from Golapganj court magistrate Muntansir Hasan.

Court Registrar Jamshed Alam stated that Abdul Mannan was shown arrested in a murder case filed during the July movement in Golapganj, Sylhet. However, there are no other cases against him in Sylhet.

Previously, on March 11, three other officials were temporarily dismissed from government service due to being in jail following arrests: former Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md. Shahidullah, former SP of Bagerhat district Abul Hasnat Khan, and former SP of Noakhali district Mohammad Asaduzzaman.
