Fire in Uttara residential building: Six people, including three from the same family, died

Dhaka Correspondent: A total of six people, including three from the same family, were tragically killed in a horrific fire at a seven-story residential building on Road No. 18 in Sector No. 11 of Uttara in the capital. At least 10 people were injured in the incident and are being treated at various hospitals.

The fire broke out on the second floor of the building on Friday (January 16) morning. Eyewitnesses said that within a moment the entire floor was darkened by fire and smoke. The situation became even more dire when residents started running in panic.

Uttara Paschim Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiq Ahmed said that those killed in the fire were Fazle Rabbi Rizvi, Afsana Akhter Subarna and their child Md. Rishan from the same family. The other deceased were Haris Uddin, Md. Rahab and Rodela.

Talha Bin Jasim, an officer of the media cell of the Fire Service Headquarters, said that within four minutes of receiving the news of the fire at 7:54 am, the Fire Service unit left for the scene. Two units of Uttara Fire Station arrived at 7:58 am and started working to control the fire. After about half an hour of effort, the fire was brought under control at 8:25 am and was completely extinguished around 10 am.

Doctors said that the condition of some of the injured in the incident is critical. As a result, it is feared that the death toll may increase.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. However, the Fire Service and law enforcement agencies have started an investigation to find out the cause of the fire.

This tragic incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the area. The families and neighbors of the victims have broken down in tears due to the pain of losing their loved ones.
