Farmer Dies in Lightning Strike While Harvesting Paddy in Jamalganj

District Correspondent, Sylhet:  A farmer named Zakir Hossain (35), a resident of Lakshmipur village in Sunamganj’s Jamalganj, died after being struck by lightning while harvesting paddy in a haor (wetland).

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the Bakshar Haor area of the upazila.

According to police and local sources, a storm accompanied by rain began in Jamalganj around noon. At the time, Zakir Hossain was harvesting paddy in his field in Bakshar Haor.

While harvesting, he was struck by lightning and sustained critical injuries. Other farmers working nearby rescued him and took him to Jamalganj Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Jamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam said, “A farmer has died in a lightning strike while harvesting paddy in a haor. His body has been handed over to his family following legal procedures.”
