Mohammad Khoursed Helaly, Cox’s Bazar: RAB has uncovered a fake currency factory in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar, and arrested two individuals along with a significant number of tools and counterfeit notes from the scene.
In a press release sent to the media on Wednesday (April 23), Assistant Director (Legal and Media) of RAB-15 Cox’s Bazar Battalion and Assistant Superintendent of Police A.M. Faruq shared this information.
The arrested individuals are Md. Sultan (54), son of Abdur Rahman from Gorjan Toli area in Khutakhali Union of Chakaria Upazila, and Jafar Alam (33), son of late Mir Ahmed from Sabuj Chhaya area in Islampur Union of Eidgaon Upazila.
A.M. Faruq stated that RAB recently received intelligence about an organized gang manufacturing fake currency in various locations across the district. Acting on this information, a RAB team conducted a raid on a secret factory in the Gorjan Toli area of Khutakhali Union in Chakaria on Tuesday afternoon.
As RAB encircled the suspicious factory, 3-4 individuals attempted to flee the scene. Two suspects were apprehended after a chase, while the others managed to escape.
Upon searching the premises, RAB recovered 27 bundles of counterfeit notes of Tk. 1,000 denomination, 33 bundles of Tk. 500 denomination, one counterfeit note-producing machine, and 50 laminating papers.
The RAB media officer stated that the detainees are identified members of a criminal gang. One of the accused, Md. Sultan, has a previous case filed against him under the Special Powers Act for producing counterfeit notes.
A case has been filed against the detainees under the relevant laws at Chakaria Police Station, according to Assistant Superintendent of Police A.M. Faruq.
