Fake Currency Case: UP Member Among Three Arrested in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar

Mohammad Khoursed Helaly, Cox’s Bazar correspondent: Police have arrested three individuals, including a Union Parishad (UP) member, with counterfeit currency worth Tk 2.49 lakh in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar. The fake notes were seized during a search operation at the Morichha BGB checkpoint in Ramu around 11 p.m. on Saturday.

This information was confirmed by Ramu Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Iman Kanti Chowdhury.

The arrested individuals are Mohammad Hasan, a UP member and son of the late Golam Kader from Kawarkhop Union in Ramu; Md. Kajol, son of Mohammad Shafi from the same area; and Md. Ehsanul Haque, son of the late Anu Mia, also from the same area.

OC Iman Kanti Chowdhury stated that it is suspected the counterfeit money was being transported with the intent to distribute it in cattle markets, particularly targeting the upcoming Qurbani Eid. The fake notes might have also been aimed at circulation in Rohingya camps and other local markets. The three arrested individuals have been sent to court following legal procedures, he added.
