Doa Mahfil and discussion meeting in memory of distinguished journalist Shahjahan Qamar

Ashfak Ahmed, Borlekha (Moulvibazar) Correspondent: A discussion meeting and doa mahfil were held at the Borlekha Press Club office on Tuesday night in memory of Mohammad Shahjahan Qamar, a prominent son of Borlekha Upazila in Moulvibazar.


In the discussion held by the Barolekha Press Club, chaired by Press Club President Anwarul Islam and moderated by Iqbal Hossain Swapan, Vice-President of the Barolekha Upazila Press Club correspondent of Amed Soomi newspaper, the meeting was addressed by Press Club Vice-President Khalilur Rahman, General Secretary Abdur Rob, Muraul High School Headmaster and Editor of the Weekly Notun Barokantha Rashid Ahmed Khan, former General Secretary of the Press Club Advocate Gopal Dutta, Press Club Organizing Secretary Kazi Ramiz Uddin, Finance Secretary Sultan Ahmed Khalil, Azad Bahar Jamali, Tapan Kumar Das, Tahmid Ishad Ripon, Reporters Ashfak Ahmed, Faisal Mahmud, Redwan Ahmed Rumman, Sirajul Islam Ripon and others, shedding light on the late journalist’s active life.

The speakers said – Journalist Shahjahan Qamar was a greedy, unassuming and simple-minded person. He was a friend and a gentleman to journalists. Journalist Shahjan Qamar was an uncompromising person when it came to the principles and ideals of reaching the heights of honor and success. This talented journalist has earned a reputation not only in journalism but also as a journalist leader. Every time he came to his village home on vacation, he would inquire about local journalists. He would exchange views with them. He would talk about the various arts and techniques of journalism in the district. He always said that the main characteristic of journalists is ethics and morality.

At the discussion meeting, a condolence message and memorial were presented by the Press Club to Salauddin Mallick, the assistant headmaster of Muraul High School, the younger brother of the deceased. After the memorial meeting, Hasan Shamim, Joint General Secretary of the Press Club, led prayers for the forgiveness of the departed soul of journalist Shahjan Qamar.

It is worth noting that this distinguished journalist Mohammad Shahjahan Qamar passed away at the age of 56 in a hospital in Dhaka on the early morning of April 10.
