Clash Over Seizing Committee House in Ajmiriganj, Over 50 Injured

A F M Asad Ullah Asad: A clash lasting over an hour broke out between two groups over the control of a village committee house in Ajmiriganj, Habiganj. More than 50 people were injured in the incident. Police arrived at the scene upon receiving information and brought the situation under control.

The incident occurred on Friday morning in the Noagaon village of Jalsukha Union in Ajmiriganj Upazila.

According to police and locals, the Noagaon village committee leases out nearby land, ponds, and ditches every year. The committee also has a significant amount of funds in its account. Until now, the control of the committee house had been with a resident of the village, Awami League leader Shahjahan Member. Recently, however, Latifur Member opposed this control.

This had caused tension between the two groups over the past few days. On Friday morning, both groups gathered and engaged in a violent clash using local weapons. More than 50 people from both sides were injured. The injured were sent to Ajmiriganj, Baniachang Upazila Health Complex, and the District Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Ajmiriganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) A B M Maidul Hasan confirmed the incident and stated that the situation is now under control.
