District Correspondent, Sylhet: The governing body of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) has decided to cancel ten economic zones, according to the agency’s Executive Chairman, Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun. He disclosed this information during a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka. Among the cancelled zones is one in the Sylhet Division—the Chhatak Economic Zone in Sunamganj. This project was supposed to be implemented through private investment.
Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun stated, “Out of one hundred zones, the governing body has made the final decision to cancel ten economic zones. Among these, five were planned as government-run and the other five as privately-operated economic zones.”
It is worth mentioning that during the tenure of the previous Awami League government, a decision was made to establish a total of one hundred economic zones across various regions of the country, combining both public and private initiatives.
