District Correspondent, Sylhet
BNP’s National Executive Committee Assistant Organizing Secretary, Miftah Siddiqi, stated that in 1971, we had to fight the Liberation War to protest against the disparity between East and West Pakistan. On March 26, 1971, with the declaration of independence by Major Ziaur Rahman, freedom-loving people initiated the Liberation War against the Pakistani invaders and their collaborators. However, the aspirations with which the country was liberated have not been fully realized. Instead, over the last 17 years, the spirit of the Liberation War has been discarded, inequality has been reintroduced, and the institutions of the state have been destroyed.
In the face of public and student movements against inequality, the fall of fascism has led the people to dream of building a new Bangladesh. Our leader, Tarique Rahman, has announced a 31-point program to reform the state structure. Under his leadership, the BNP aims to build a state characterized by equality, equity, happiness, prosperity, self-reliance, and welfare for the people.
He made these remarks on Wednesday at 2:30 pm while speaking as the chief guest at a program organized by Azizul Hossain Aziz, former member secretary of the Sylhet Metropolitan Volunteer Party. The event, held at Sylhet Sports Complex in the Upashahar area, marked Independence Day and Eid-ul-Fitr by distributing Eid gifts among injured July revolution fighters and the underprivileged.
He further stated that the BNP has always spoken for the common people and has fought for their rights through movements and struggles. BNP leadership has never fled, leaving behind its workers in times of crisis. On the contrary, when faced with public outrage, fascist Sheikh Hasina fled with her sister in a helicopter, abandoning those who carried out their misdeeds, including enforced disappearances and killings. Therefore, we must remember that BNP practices politics for the people and is a party of the masses. On the other hand, Awami League is a party isolated from the people and cannot be rehabilitated in this country.
Presiding over the event was Azizul Hossain Aziz, while it was moderated by Sylhet District Chhatra Dal Joint General Secretary Zaminul Islam Jami. Special guests who spoke included Sylhet District BNP Joint General Secretary Siddiqur Rahman Paplu, Advocate Mujibur Rahman, Sylhet District Volunteer Party Convener Abdul Ahad Khan Jamal, and Metropolitan BNP Organizing Secretary Rafiqul Islam Rafiq.
