A. F. M. Asad Ullah: In light of recent incidents of forced entry (push-in) of Rohingya and foreign nationals from India across various borders of the country, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified patrols and increased intelligence activities along the Habiganj border.
Although no infiltration incidents have been reported along the district’s 103.2-kilometer border, the BGB remains on high alert to handle any unforeseen situations.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Tanzilur Rahman, Commander of the 55 BGB Battalion, stated, “In accordance with directives from the BGB headquarters and considering the current situation, maximum alert has been issued in the border areas. Patrolling has been intensified at each Border Out Post (BOP). Surveillance activities have been increased, and we are closely monitoring all suspicious movements with the help of local residents.”
He further added, “We are fully prepared to prevent any kind of push-in at the border. Our primary objective is to safeguard the sovereignty and security of the country.”
Diplomatic sources reveal that in the first week of May, a significant number of Bengali-speaking Indian nationals and Rohingyas were pushed in from India into five border districts of the country, including Khagrachari, Kurigram, and Moulvibazar. However, due to the strict vigilance of the 55 BGB Battalion, no incidents of infiltration or push-in have occurred along the Habiganj border so far.
