District Representative Sylhet: Sunamganj 28 BGB Battalion has taken additional security and patrol measures in the Banshtala, Pekpara Baganbari (12-kilometer) border area of Doara Bazar Upazila in Sunamganj.
India imposed a curfew on the border from 8 pm to 8 am last Friday. In this context, this measure was taken at the Sunamganj border with Bangladesh, said Sunamganj 28 BGB Commander Lt. Col. AKM Zakaria Qadir.
It is learned that due to the curfew imposed by the Indian BSF’s second battalion, there is a 12-kilometer (90-kilometer border area) between the Sylhet 48 Battalion and Sunamganj. The residents of the border area of the district have been warned about the safety of the residents of this 12-kilometer Doara Bazar border area and that they cannot intrude from India in any way.
Local residents said that there is no barbed wire fence anywhere in this border area. Indian goods including Indian sugar, onions, spices, chocolate, cosmetics, drugs are brought in on this occasion. And various domestic products including Hilsa fish, horn fish, betel nut are going to India. In addition, push-ins are taking place in different areas of the country. BGB is active to prevent push-ins in Bangladesh.
Sunamganj 28 BGB Commander Lt. Col. AKM Zakaria Qadir said that the Banshtala, Pekpara and Baganbari areas of the Doara Bazar border area of the district have fallen under Indian curfew. It is not possible to say when it will be relaxed. Therefore, special precautionary measures, awareness activities and additional patrols have been arranged on the 12-kilometer border of this upazila. In addition, surveillance has been increased in other border areas of the district.
