Md Sakib, staff reporter: Bagha Sharif of Cumilla has once again emerged as the champion in the 116th edition of the historic Jabbarchar’s Boli Khela. In the final, he defeated his district rival, Rashed Boli. Notably, Bagha Sharif also secured the title in the previous tournament by defeating the same opponent.

The Boli Khela began at 4 PM on Friday (April 25) on the sandy stage at Chattogram’s Laldighi Maidan. The event was inaugurated by Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz.

Approximately 150 participants competed in this year’s tournament. Thousands of spectators gathered at Laldighi Maidan from noon to watch the event. People from different parts of the country, as well as Chattogram locals, came to witness this traditional competition.

A three-day-long Baishakhi Mela has also been organized to mark the occasion. Various stalls have been set up from Kotowali Mor to Anderkilla area, offering a vibrant fair experience.

After more than two hours of intense competition, the champion was announced at 6 PM. The mayor of Chattogram City Corporation, Dr. Shahadat Hossain, handed over the trophy and cash prize to the winner on behalf of the fair committee.

Jabbarchar’s Boli Khela is not just a sporting event but a significant representation of the culture and heritage of this region. To preserve this century-old tradition, wrestlers from across the country participate in this Baishakh celebration every year.
