Illegal Indian cigarettes worth 6 lakh taka seized at Baralekha border

Ashfak Ahmed,Baralekha Correspondent: A patrol team of BGB-52 Battalion seized 3,000 packets of illegal Indian cigarettes during a BGB operation at the BOC Tila border in Baralekha upazila of Moulvibazar.

On Saturday night, a regular patrol team of BOC Tila BOP seized 3,000 packets of Indian cigarettes without owners from a place called Satkarakandi Uthnir More in Sadar Union of the upazila.

According to BGB 52 sources, unknown smugglers were illegally smuggling Indian cigarettes into Bangladesh from India when a regular patrol team of BGB conducted an operation at a place called Uthnir More, approximately 2 kilometers inside Bangladesh from the BOC Tila BOP border. At that time, the smugglers fled after noticing the speed of the BGB. During the operation, the BGB seized 3,000 packets of Indian cigarettes without owners. The current market value of which is 6 lakh taka.

BGB-52 Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Mohammad Ariful Haque Chowdhury said that the BOC Tila BOP BGB patrol team seized 3,000 packets of Indian-made cigarettes without owners. The seized cigarettes have been submitted to the customs.
