Mohammad Yasin Bhuiyan: Due to continuous heavy rains in Chittagong, there is a risk of landslides. As a result, hundreds of people have been evacuated from vulnerable hilly areas to various shelters. This activity was carried out till 10 pm yesterday, Thursday (July 10).

An official of the Chittagong Deputy Commissioner’s Office said that in view of the heavy rains, people are being warned by using microphones in various hilly areas of the city. Awareness campaign is continuing under the supervision of Zone Committee Four and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Chittagong City Unit.
He said that families have been evacuated from various vulnerable hilly areas of the city including Lalkhan Bazar’s Motijharna, Batali Hill, Akbarshah, Jheel-1, Jheel-2, Bayezid Link Road and taken to shelters. Three meals a day, first aid and other assistance have been ensured for them there.
Zakaria, Assistant Land Officer of Pahartali Land Office, said that the Chittagong District Administration and Kattali Circle AC Land are conducting miking in the hilly areas with local volunteers. Adequate food has been stored in the shelters.
District administration officials said that these rescue and awareness activities have been continued at night as well. Taking lessons from past experiences during the monsoon season, measures have been taken in advance this time.
Incidentally, in recent years, there have been deaths in Chittagong due to landslides during the monsoon season. To avoid such incidents, 12 zone committees have been formed under the Chittagong District Administration, which are conducting awareness activities in risky areas.
