Baralekha (Moulvibazar) Correspondent: Police have arrested six people in connection with the theft of two separate temples in Baralekha upazila of Moulvibazar. Various valuable stolen goods and tools used in the theft have been recovered. They were arrested in separate raids on Friday night.

The arrested are – Ruhel Ahmed (30), son of the late Raboi Mia of Dohalia village in the upazila, Abu Tayeb Ahmed Saju (28), son of Tajim Uddin of Muchelgul village, Nur Hossain (40), son of Rafiq Uddin of Borni Noygaon area, Zakir Hossain (31), son of Ashar Uddin of Kumarshail area, Shah Ali (42), son of the late Ahmed Hossain of Madhabgul area, Alal Mia (38), son of Darbesh Ali of Mirpur South area of Moulvibazar.
According to police sources, a theft took place at the Sri Sri Uddhav Thakur Akhara in Pakhiyala area of Baralekha Municipality between 9 pm on June 12 and 5 am on June 13. Unknown thieves broke the lock of the temple gate and entered inside and stole various goods. On June 13, temple committee president Manju Lal De filed a case with Baralekha police station. Then, on June 26, between 10 pm on June 26 and 7 am on June 27, a theft occurred at the Dakshinbhag Sarvajanin Devasthali temple in the same upazila. Unknown thieves stole various goods from the temple. On June 27, temple committee members filed a case with Baralekha police station. To arrest those involved in the thefts in the two temples, Baralekha police station Police Inspector (Investigation) Md. Habibur Rahman led by SI Subrata Chandra Das, SI Newton Dutta, ASI Mofizul Islam and police launched a drive. Later, based on the review of footage from various CCTV cameras and secret information, a drive was conducted on Wednesday (June 25) at 8:30 pm from the railway line area next to Dakshinbhag Bazar. Later, according to the information given by him, Abu Tayeb Ahmed Saju, Nur Hosan, Zakir Hossain, Md. Alal Mia, Shah Ali involved in the incident were arrested. Later, based on the information given by the arrested, the stolen goods were recovered from Shah Ali’s scrap shop in Suhel Mia Market in Madhabgul area. In addition, 1 cutter, 2 Hescu blades, 1 hammer, 3 chisel ranges, 3 hammers, 2 pieces of rods and 1 red jug used in the theft were seized from Nur Hosan’s house.
Police said that the recovered items include 11 brass pots (small and large), 2 flower plates, 1 brass lamp, 2 sets of chip boxes, 1 large copper bell, 5 copper bowls, 2 copper plates, 1 brass pitcher, 1 copper bell and 6 copper plates.
Barolekha Police Station OC Mahbubur Rahman Mollah said on Saturday afternoon that six people have been arrested in connection with the theft at two temples. Various stolen valuables and tools have been recovered. The arrested have confessed to their involvement in the theft. They will be sent to jail through the court.
