BSF Pushes 12 Rohingyas, 4 Bangladeshis Through Baralekha Border

Baralekha (Moulvibazar) Correspondent: The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has pushed 16 people, including women and children, through the Latu border in Baralekha upazila of Moulvibazar. On Monday (June 23), at around 7 am, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Latu BOP patrol force arrested 16 people pushed by the BSF from Kumarshail tea garden on the Latu border. The BGB-52 Battalion confirmed the arrest. Among the detainees, there are 9 children, 4 men and 3 women.

According to BGB sources, according to the information given by the detainees, the BSF took them to the zero line of the border in the early hours of Monday and forcibly pushed them through a gate into Bangladesh. Later, when they were seen roaming around the Kumarshail tea plantation in the BOP area bordering Latu upazila, the BGB suspected their movements and detained them and took them to the camp. Initial interrogation revealed that 12 of them are Rohingyas and 4 are Bangladeshis. So far, the number of people detained through the Latu, Bobarthol and Pallathol borders of Barolekha upazila has reached 292.

North Shahbazpur UP Chairman Rafiq Uddin Ahmed said that on Monday morning, people from the bordering Kumarshail village were seen wandering around their village with tired, sad and distressed looks. When some of them were mistaken for Rohingya Muslims, the local stopped them and informed him and the local BGB camp. Later, the BGB members detained them and took them to the Latu camp.

BGB-52 Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Arif said that the BSF has continued to push illegal Bangladeshis through the risky border by evading the eyes of the BGB. On Monday morning, the BOP patrol team at the Latu border arrested 16 people. Initial interrogation revealed that 12 of them are Rohingyas and 4 are Bangladeshis. To confirm the Rohingyas, we are in touch with various refugee camps and along with that, the NID screening process is going on.
