A.F.M. Asad Ullah: The biennial 2023-2025 general meeting of the Bangladesh Photojournalist Association (BPJA) Sylhet Divisional Committee was held under the chairmanship of the Association’s acting president Yusuf Ali and the direction of General Secretary Md. Nurul Islam. In the meeting held, the first election (2025-2027) was held through ballot since the establishment of the association. Nazmul Kabir Pavel was elected as the president and Ashkar Ibne Amin Laskar Rabbi was elected as the general secretary.
The biennial election of the BJPA was held on Saturday in the hall of a prestigious hotel in Lamabazar of the city. 100 percent of the voters cast their votes in the election.
Nazmul Kabir Pavel was elected as the president, his closest rival was Dulal Hossain. Ashkar Ibne Amin Laskar Rabbi won the post of General Secretary, his closest rival was Md. Nurul Islam.
Meanwhile, Humayun Kabir Liton was elected as Vice President (1) and Sheikh Abdul Majid was elected as Vice President (2). They were contested by Md. Nurul Islam and Shah Md. Qays Ahmed. Jabed Ahmed was elected as Treasurer, his closest rival was Md. Shahin Ahmed.
In addition, SM Rafiqul Islam Sujon won the post of Vice General Secretary, Anwar Hossain as Publicity and Publication, Reza Rubel as Sports and Cultural Secretary, and Ajmal Ali as Executive Member as a single candidate without contest.
Sylhet Press Club President Ikramul Kabir, Sylhet District Press Club President Moin Uddin, Sylhet Press Club General Secretary Muhammad Sirajul Islam and Sylhet District Press Club General Secretary Mohammad Nasir Uddin performed the duties of Election Commissioner.
Present at the announcement of the election results were BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Acting President Rezaul Hasan Qays Lodi, Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Fakhrul Islam, Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Imdad Hossain Chowdhury, Sylhet Press Club Senior Vice President Khaled Ahmed, Association’s Founding President Ataur Rahman Ata, Aftab Uddin, Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Faisal Ahmed Bablu and Abdus Salam Tipu, who was injured in the student-public movement. Mahmud Hossain presented the treasurer’s report at the general meeting before the election.
Association members Mamun Hasan, Sheikh Ashraful Alam Nasir, Iqbal Munshi, Anis Mahmud, Pallab Bhattacharya, Subrata Das, Abdul Khaliq, HM Shahidul Islam, Ekram Hossain, Mamun Hossain, associate members Anis Rahman, Belayet Hossain, Bilkis Akhter Sumi, Ratna Ahmed Tamanna, Shipon Ahmed and others were present at the event.
