District Correspondent, Sylhet: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 16 individuals, including women and children, for illegal entry into Bangladesh through the Kanaighat border. Among the detainees were 8 men, 6 women, and 2 children.

On Wednesday morning around 8:00 AM, members of the Atgram Border Outpost under BGB’s 19th Battalion apprehended them while they were crossing the Karaballa border in Kanaighat Upazila.

Kanaighat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Awal confirmed that the detainees were caught while entering Bangladesh illegally through the Atgram border area.

Sources from the Atgram BGB camp stated that based on a tip-off, additional surveillance was deployed at the border. During this operation, the group was detained while attempting to cross illegally from India. In initial questioning, the detainees admitted to having lived illegally in India for an extended period.

The BGB has informed that legal proceedings against the detainees are underway. After preliminary investigation, efforts to hand them over to the police are also in progress.
