A.F.M. Asad Ullah: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized three and a half metric tons of Indian beef along with contraband goods worth approximately 11.4 million BDT in Madhabpur, Habiganj.
Lieutenant Colonel Tanzilur Rahman, Commander of the 55th BGB (Habiganj Battalion), confirmed the incident on Monday night. He stated that a special BGB patrol team conducted an anti-smuggling operation at Jagadishpur Mukti Joddha Chattar on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Madhabpur Upazila. During the operation, the driver of a truck fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. Upon inspection, the team discovered three and a half tons of frozen Indian beef and a significant quantity of high-quality georgette fabric inside the truck.
He added that over the past three days, the BGB had conducted four more operations across various locations in the district, seizing five Indian cows, 100 kilograms of rubber, 30 kilograms of cannabis, and a bicycle. The total value of these confiscated items is estimated to be around 11.4 million BDT.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Tanzilur Rahman, the smuggled georgette fabric and beef were en route from Sylhet to Dhaka. Acting on a tip-off, the BGB conducted the operation and seized the contraband. The confiscated items have been handed over to Madhabpur and Chunarughat police stations in accordance with legal procedures.
