4 people including former chief assistant jailed for corruption in Baralekha Land Office

Baralekha-Juri Correspondent: AC Land has arrested and handed over to the police four people including the former chief assistant accountant of the Upazila Land Office, a cleaner and two landowners for the crime of forging Baralekha Khatian in Moulvibazar.

The police sent them to jail through the court on Friday afternoon in the case of forging the Khatian of Surveyor Shamsul Huda.

The arrested are – former chief assistant cum accountant of the Upazila Land Office Rasendra Kumar Das (current workplace Srimangal Upazila Land Office), cleaner Kabya Chanda and landowner Abdul Jabbar and his brother Abdul Kuddus.

According to relevant sources, a landowner registered two plots of land in a Khatian in 2019. In exchange for a large bribe, the chief assistant of the AC Land Office, Kam Rasendra Kumar Das, and the cleaner Kabya Chanda, forged the signature of the then AC Land and recorded 12 percent of the land in the two spots of the Khatian and another spot in the ‘Kh’ schedule of the government 1/1 Khatian in the volume. Not only that, the assistant land officer of the Sadar Union Land Office, Majid Mia, paid the land development tax of the said Khatian issued through fraud in exchange for a large bribe.

When the matter came to the notice of Surveyor Shamsul Huda on Thursday, he immediately informed the Assistant Commissioner (Land) who ordered him (AC Land) to take legal action. AC Land informed the accused, took them to the office and arrested them and handed them over to the police. In this regard, Shamsul Huda, the surveyor of the Upazila Land Office, has filed a case against the 5 accused at the police station for the crime of Khatian forgery.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Aslam Sarwar confirmed the incident and said that after finding evidence of Khatian forgery by three landowners and two office staff, four of them were immediately arrested and handed over to the police. A fraud case has been filed at the police station with the surveyor as the plaintiff in this regard, accusing 5 people.

Police Inspector (Investigation) of Barolekha Police Station Sheikh Md. Kamruzzaman said that the 4 accused arrested in the Khatian forgery case were sent to jail through the court on Friday afternoon.
