Buddha Purnima celebrated with due dignity in Cox’s Bazar

The main religious festival of Buddhists, Shubh Buddha Purnima, is being celebrated with due religious fervor in various Buddhist monasteries in Cox’s Bazar. Various religious rituals are being conducted in Buddhist monasteries to observe the day.

On Sunday (May 11) morning, various programs including worship of eighty-four thousand Dharmaskanda, Sanghadan and Ashta Asthadan were held at the historic Rangkut Banashram Buddhist Monastery in Ramu.

Meanwhile, a colorful procession was organized in Ukhia by the initiative of the Universal Buddha Purnima Celebration Council on a 20-kilometer-long road with a convoy of vehicles. The participants in the procession sang Buddha Sankirtan along with Buddhist heritage artworks, banners and festoons.

The procession started from in front of Kutupalong High School at 7:30 am on Sunday. Later, the procession went around Marichya Station and ended at Madhyaratma Ratnagkur Buddhist Monastery. After that, Saddharma Sabha, Ashtaparishkar along with Mahasanghdan and Gati Sammelan were held there. A free medical camp was organized there on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

In addition, colorful processions and discussion meetings were held in various Buddhist villages of Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Ukhia, Chakaria and Maheshkhali on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. In addition, Buddha Puja, fasting and congregational prayers were held in every Buddhist monastery in the morning.

On the day of Buddha Purnima, the founder of Buddhism, Mahamati Gautama Buddha, was born, attained Buddhahood and attained Mahaparinirvana. This day, which is associated with the Three Memories, is very significant for the people of Buddhism.
