Gunfight Between Two Terrorist Groups in Teknaf Rohingya Camp, Cox’s Bazar

Mohammad Khorshed Helali, Cox’s Bazar:

A gunfight occurred between the terrorist groups led by Saddam and Noor Kamal over territorial dominance in the Teknaf Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar, causing panic among the Rohingya community and local residents.

The incident took place on Thursday (May 8) around 10:45 PM in the Zakerer Deil area, adjacent to Blocks H and I of the Nayapara Registered Rohingya Camp under Hnila Union of Teknaf Upazila.

Commander of the Teknaf 16th Armed Police Battalion (APBn), Additional Deputy Inspector General (ADIG) Mohammad Kausar Sikder, said that, according to local sources, an unexpected gunfight broke out inside the barbed-wire boundaries between the terrorist groups of Saddam and Noor Kamal. Both groups fired at least 20 to 30 rounds of bullets. Upon receiving the news, APBn members reached the spot, prompting the terrorists to flee to the hilly areas on the western side of the camp.

He further stated that no casualties were reported in the incident. The gunfight mainly occurred due to disputes over crime control and territorial dominance within the camp. Since the incident, additional security measures have been enforced in the area. The APBn has also launched operations to identify and apprehend those involved.
