Murder Case Filed Against NCP and AB Party Leaders and 6 Others in Khurushkul Murder of Youth

Mohammad Khorshed Helali, Cox’s Bazar:

In connection with the murder of a youth named Ali Akbar at the ‘Allawala Hatchery’ in Khurushkul, Cox’s Bazar Sadar, a murder case has been filed against NCP leader Raiyan Kashem and Central Vice Chairman of Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party Jahangir Kashem, along with six others. The case was filed late Tuesday night, according to Elias Khan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station. Ali Akbar’s wife, Elmunnahar, filed the case as the complainant.

The accused in the case are Jahangir Kashem (60), his son and district NCP leader Raiyan Kashem (28), Abul Kashem’s son Tanvir Kashem (50), Allawala Hatchery Manager Anwar (50), Ali Ahammed’s son Mohammad Hossain (28), and Rezaul Karim’s son Md. Mizanur Rahman (19). Additionally, 4-5 unidentified persons have been accused. Among the accused, Raiyan Kashem, Mizan, and Anwar Hossain are already in custody.

Even before the case was registered, Raiyan Kashem, director of the hatchery, who was in police custody, was presented before the court under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on Tuesday. Cox’s Bazar Sadar Senior Judicial Magistrate Akhtar Javed ordered his transfer to prison. Two others, Mizan and Hossain, were sent to prison on Monday.

Defense lawyer Advocate Golam Faruq Khan Kaisar stated that they presented various arguments in court to establish that Raiyan was not involved in the incident. However, the court ordered his detention in prison as a suspect in the murder case. The court also directed prison authorities to ensure proper medical treatment for Raiyan.

Raiyan Kashem, currently in prison, was previously known as the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement during the July uprising. He is now serving as a district leader of the recently formed National Citizens’ Party (NCP).

It is noteworthy that around 10 PM on Sunday night, Ali Akbar, son of the late Danu Mia of Khurushkul’s Kuliapara, was reportedly murdered at the ‘Allawala Hatchery’ in the Kuliapara and Majhir Ghat areas of Khurushkul.
